The Lightness of Walking for BETTER BALANCE

The Lightness of Walking/Better Balance Program
(Class lessons in chairs)

With the recent medical interest in falling, Bonnie Kissam created The Lightness of Walking Program to improve balance and gait. Gait is one of the major areas of focus for the medical community in recent efforts to prevent injuries from falling.

The Lightness of Walking Program is unique, in that Bonnie Kissam keeps you supported by sitting in a chair or standing against a wall as you learn to focus on developing light and easy actions necessary for walking.

The goal is to use the coordination of walking to help you find better balance. A secondary gain is that if you can find “pleasure in your walk,” you’ll choose to incorporate it more in daily living. The question is not whether you ‘can’ walk – but do you ‘enjoy’ your walking? If you are balanced and better aligned, walking will be easier and more enjoyable. Walking is a natural re-coordinating experience that relieves stress – both physically and mentally.

This program is a four to eight week program. It meets twice a week, and the investment includes a pedometer and a chart to record the steps you take each day. The class work will always be with chairs – used for sitting on and for serving as a prop.

If you are interested in using the coordination of walking to help you find better balance, this class can be offered at your club or facility. Please Contact Bonnie Kissam to discuss arrangements. 941.360.2248
