Lightness of Walking
MORE than 1/3 of adults over 65 will fall each year.
As many as 30% of the falls involve hip or head injuries, resulting in loss of independence. Of the many RISK FACTORS – loss of balance in standing and walking remain the most prevalent.Over the years our balance and postural patterns are influenced by accidents, operations, or diseases. We continue with our daily activities yet we learn to compensate, overuse and … over time, pain develops.
Walking is a natural re-coordinating experience that relieves stress – both physically and mentally - more than one often thinks.
Bonnie Kissam, M.A. in Physical Education Dance and a Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner is available to talk with you about Falling. She offers suggestions that incorporate strength and stability concepts and yet goes beyond the traditional to include ‘dynamic balance’ – a ‘moving stability’.
