Talk: Rediscovering Agility to Prevent Falling
MORE than 1/3 of all adults over 65 will fall each year. As many as 30% of these falls will involve hip or head injuries, which may result in loss of independence. Of the many RISK FACTORS – loss of balance in standing and walking remain the most prevalent.
Over the years, our balance and postural patterns are influenced by accidents, operations, or diseases. We continue with our daily activities, yet as we learn to compensate, we overuse and … over time, pain develops.
The natural re-coordinating experience of walking relieves stress, both physically and mentally. The more a person is able to walk comfortably and achieve better balance, the more confident they will be in their safety and the less likely they will be to fall.
Bonnie Kissam, M.A. in Physical Education Dance and a Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner, is available to talk with you about Falling. She offers suggestions that incorporate strength and stability concepts, and moves beyond the traditional to introduce the concept of ‘dynamic balance’ – a ‘moving stability.’
Contact Bonnie Kissam to make arrangements for her to present this informative talk to your group or organization, or to schedule a presentation on one of the other topics listed on the Presentations page.
