Bonnie Kissam, M.A.
Bonnie
Kissam, M.A., is a Guild Certified Practitioner of the Feldenkrais
Method®. After obtaining a Masters Degree in Physical Education/Dance
from the University of Michigan, she was introduced to the pioneering mind/body
work of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais. She was able to study with him in 1980-81
at Amherst, Massachusetts, during his last years of teaching. She
has been teaching the Feldenkrais Method for over 25 years.
In Connecticut in the 1980s and 90s, Bonnie Kissam worked within physical therapy clinics as well as in her own studio. Now residing and working in Sarasota, Florida, she provides individual sessions in her studio and workshops and classes throughout the area (Events Calendar). She is also on the staff at The Glenridge on Palmer Ranch. "Bonnie offers her enormous knowledge for ways older adults can be more aware of their body movements and able to increase their abilities and balance. "
Merryl Koven, original Fitness Director.
Bonnie's clients have ranged from musicians, dancers and singers to children
with learning delays or scoliosis, and to people who have suffered from
an accident, illness or stroke. Her clients are people who are willing
to experience and re-discover their 'kinesthetic sense' for development
of optimal action and or improved health, healing and well being. The process is more meditation than it is movement.
"Since I started classes with Bonnie several months ago, I am delighted with the subtle changes I have noticed. I sit and stand with straighter and better posture. I have learned different comfortable movements. The class itself is passive and relaxing and yet I end up feeling better. Bonnie’s voice is very soothing and her personality is delightful." — Marjorie S., Sarasota
In the early 1990s, Bonnie Kissam also studied with Marios Rachabado, who participated in research evaluating therapies used for people with pain in their Temporomandibular Joint (Jaw). Bonnie offers workshops such as one called Release Your Jaw, Your Voice, Your Whole Self for anyone with problems in this joint or professionals who deal with those who do. A workshop that offers basics of how to improve everyday functions is called Maintaining Lifelong Agility and is perfect for those dealing with limitations of osteoarthritis. Bonnie's workshops offer CEUs for Florida LMTs.
2009 Bonnie completed a second Masters Degree in Exceptional Student Education from University of South Florida.
